Advertisements

It is impossible to go from one place to another and not see many different types of marketing strategies in the society that we live in.  This is also very true if you were to turn on the T.V. or open up an internet page; there are many advertisements throughout the many aspects of our lives.  Some effective advertising strategies are very effective and some not so much.  A few advertisements that are not effective at all for me are the pop up ones that appear in certain apps.  They are more of an annoyance than anything.  I am using the app for one purpose and those ads just get in the way; I do not even look at them, I just x out of them and keep doing what I was doing.  In the past week I’ve noticed that television ads really are the most effective.  I think this is because when watching T.V. we don’t necessarily have a certain objective.  Watching T.V. is an activity for entertainment, therefore we are more likely to just watch what is presented to us because we are in no rush.

  1. I agree with you on the efficiency scale of each marketing strategies. I also face those repetitive ads on the different applications on my cellphone, but I cannot remember a single advertisement since I do just as you do and exit out of these applications. I also agree with you that television commercials are one of the most effective ways for advertising. Take for example watching an hour-long show; the viewer has to sit in front of the t.v. and watch their show and the commercials that go along with it. I believe that this is an effective way for marketers to advertise their products.

  2. I wanted to comment on your post because I completely agree with your thoughts on pop up advertisements. It it so aggravating to be looking at something and be constantly interrupted by these app pop ups. I do the same as you and just x them out without even looking at them. It makes me wonder how effective they are and if many people take the time to check them out. But I have to say that I don't agree that t.v. advertisements are more effective. I only say this because with the  ability to record and watch shows has made it possible to simply fast forward through commercials.

  3. I think the tv ads are the most effective because they are so ingrained in the tv watching experience. They are almost part of the rhythm of the show. I say this because I recently signed up for this online mlb package that gets me every baseball game, but for some reason when the regular broadcast goes to commercial, this app just goes silent and brings up a picture of their logo. It’s strange for two reasons. First because you’d think they’d make a lot of money from the commercials. Second because when you’re watching this with friends the silence is eerie. I’d never thought I’d say this, but where are the commercials? When the tv is just silent it’s really weird, like I have to talk to my friends now or something…
