Semester Lessons

Throughout the course of this semester, I have learned a lot of valuable information from this class.  Some is from being in an online class, and the rest is content itself.  The most important thing I am taking away from this class is a greater value on self-reliance.  In other words, this class taught me to be checking updates and staying informed on class information.  Unlike a physical attendance class, the teacher is not in front of you, reminding you what to do and when it is due, like many on campus professors.  Content wise, I think the most important lesson of the class was learning how words can be used to manipulate our emotions, thoughts and decisions.  I knew this was happening in everyday life, but to put a name to the concepts and terms made them more real; for example, slanted questions, the many fallacies, and the various appeals.  Now that I have a name for the concepts stored in my brain, when I encounter them in real-life situations, I will more readily spot them.

  1. In this class I would also say that I have learned a lot of valuable things. The Self-reliance is definitely a major part of this course because if you don’t remember to check the professor’s blog then you would definitely struggle in this class. I would say that I like online courses better than going to class. I did not like the group assignments for this class though it was a pain. I would agree that I did learn a lot about the use of language and emotion in a discussion. We use most the thing we have learned in this class everyday but I never knew the correct names for them either.

  2. I also agree with you. I, as I hope all my class mates, have learned a lot from this course. Self reliance is definitely an important skill that all students need and this class has though us that. Although not that many students take this skill into account, I believe that students need to take responsability for themselves. Even in on-campus classes, students will still receive minimal reminders from some instructors for class assignments and guidelines. This skill is more importantly needed in online classes. Although reminders are posted and recorded on the web, it is essential that students stay on top of things. Students should check online courses on daily baises. Never having taking an online course, I too learned that self reliance is essential in class work.
